Product Information

An extremely fine Kagimabuta Netsuke in Ivory, shibuichi and shakudo, in the form of a tsuba applied with a fly and an inlaid spiders web in gold. Very fine workmanship and in fantastic condition, other than a slight age crack to the Ivory bowl as shown in the pictures.

The Netsuke is 4.5cm in diameter and signed on the front by Un'no Minjo, approx around late 19th C. This was purchased from a museum disposal in the USA in the mid-70's by the previous owner who we obtained it from; the inside of both the ivory bowl and metal disc show the museum's catalogue number, still attached.

Un'no Minjo was the eldest son of the famous Un'no shomin and studied under the metalwork master, Kano Natsuo. He died at the age of 43, in 1910 and was a professor at the Tokyo University of Art. A rare and extremely nice netsuke.
